Bachelor Dance/ Admission requirements

Admission requirements: university entrance qualification (in certain cases, Mittlere Reife – secondary school level certificate), prior dance training (very good basic knowledge of classical and contemporary dance is expected), medical clearance permitting participation in a dance program, successful completion of aptitude test at the University of Music and Dance Cologne; international students: proof of German language proficiency

The aptitude test consists of an interview and one training session each in classical dance, contemporary dance and choreography/improvisation. The Examination Committee selects applicants during or after each training session.

Dance Studies/ Admission requirements

Admission requirements are generally a bachelor’s degree in dance, theatre, musicology, or a in a cultural studies or social science with a specialization in dance cultural studies. If students have an artistically-oriented Bachelor of Arts degree, they may be admitted on the condition they participate in additional dance studies courses under the B.A. in Dance program.

Excellent German and English language proficiency is required. Eligibility for the program is determined by the following application documents:

1. Curriculum Vitae

2. Notarized copy of general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)

3. Submission of artistic or academic sample work for dance, dance studies or movement research

4. Statement of Purpose

Dance Dissemination/ Admission requirements

An admission requirement is generally a Bachelor degree in dance or dance education or an equivalent qualifying degree from a university, an institution for higher education for the performing arts or a legally equivalent academic institution, or proof of an equivalent international degree. Usually candidates should have worked  professionally for at least 3 years.

Aptitude assessment requires the following application papers and materials:

1. Personal data sheet/Curriculum Vitae including a photo (portrait) 

2. Letter of motivation in which the applicant reflects upon her/his point of departure, fields of interest and individual questions regarding his/her prospective studies within the M.A. course Tanzvermittlung im zeitgenössischen Kontext.

3. A dvd (max. length 30 min.) which may include a documentation of own practice as dancer, performer and/or choreographer or excerpts of own movement research.

4. Letter of recommendation (1-3) 

5. A written concept of a class (length: 30 min.) that the applicant is going to teach during the aptitude test.

The decision regarding admission to the program is going to be made by members of the admission examination committee. The decision is based on the grade of the applicant's B.A. exam, the quality of the applicant's artistic practice as performer, dancer or choreographer and her/his ability to reflect upon these.
