PROJECTS AND COOPERATIONS

 

Through regional, national, and international cooperations, the CCD offers students an active connection to the heterogenous working field. At the same time, this supports the professionalization, internationalization, and inter-disciplination of exchange between different artistic focuses.

Reflecting on the projects, it is clear that formats were developed that transcended gaps and differences between varying areas of study. This was achieved by building the artistic projects from historic and scientific reflection, as well as from pedagogic and artistic practices. The multiple examples in which theory and practice were combined through the CCD is part of what makes this institution exceptional. A highly qualified, engaged and cooperative team works at the CCD and participates actively in exchange, both within and from without the institution.

Active networking is both part of the class work as well as the projects. The Dance Education program profits greatly from cooperation with international partner universities. The Dance Studies program is fortunate in its collaboration with the Dance Archive Cologne. And, the Dance Dissemination with various residencies in theaters and collectives throughout the NRW. To this, we add continuous communication, detailed feedback, mentoring as well as project work, creating at the CCD a space where the pedagogic method includes the development of innovative methodologies as well as content.

 

Performance Projects

The Centre for Contemporary Dance places great emphasis on linking dance training with the working field. An important part of the curriculum are performance projects. Here, students engage with and reflect working methods of prominent contemporary choreographers. They also produce performances of their own.

Performance practice is seen as an integral component of the training, whereby the students also collect experiences within the production-oriented ranges of dance performances: on the one hand within dramaturgy and public relation, on the other hand within realisation for/on stage and light and sound design.

An important goal of the education, based on thorough knowledge of technique, is to train competitive, body-conscious and intelligent dancers that are open and inquisitive and are able to represent their art form confidently. The future dancers and dance teachers practice their career at municipal theatres or in free ensembles. They are being prepared in such a way that, after their first occupation, they are able to acquire additional qualifications in the field of choreography, training, dance pedagogy, dance therapy, journalism, dance dramaturgy or dance studies.
